About this cause

BGFF has for 38 years fought to preserve native forests in the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes, in one case even taking an issue to the High Court of Australia. As a result the Shire has a high proportion of its surrounding forests preserved for its residents and visitors and future generations.

We are now fighting to preserve the Greater Dalgarup Forest - 20 km west of Bridgetown on the Nannup road - against claims for Mining exploration. In one case - the Nunn Block, a prime old-growth block acquired by the Government for inclusion in the Dalgarup National Park - has had a Mining Exploration Licence issued by DEMIRS. Other existing Mining Exploration Claims extend up to 1/3 the width of the Dalgarup National Park on three sides.

This forest - comprising the Dalgarup National Park and three adjacent reserves - is the last major mixed old-growth and high conservation value forest in the Bridgetown Shire where the original forest structure is still preserved. For further information please go to SAVE DALGARUP on Facebook.

We are also actively involved in the West Australian Forest Alliance campaign to end mining in native forests.

We urgently need funds to support our activities aimed at preserving the iconic Greater Dalgarup Forest from mining exploration and development.

How will the funds be used? Public education and extension through print and online media and public events such as symposia, workshops and meetings. We also support research and studies aimed at eliminating or mitigating threats to the high conservation value forest, its endangered wildlife and flora and indigenous and non-indigenous heritage, by mining exploration and operations and climate change.  Funds may be applied to support legal challenges to mining exploration claims and maintaining or upgrading walk trails through the Nunn Block and the National Park.
