About this cause

Blind Citizens Australia (BCA) is the national representative organisation of people who are blind or vision impaired.

Our purpose is to inform, connect and empower Australians who are blind or vision impaired and the broader community.

How will these funds be used?

To support our key activities of peer support, information dissemination, individual advocacy, systemic advocacy, consultation, projects and events.

Key Areas of Support

  • Peer Support - BCA's peer connect groups give people who are blind or vision impaired a safe space to discuss topics of interest. Our branches provide opportunities for social interaction and advocacy support for people who are blind or vision impaired.

  • Information dissemination - Providing accurate and timely information to members, blindness organisations and the wider community. Regular tools include our weekly newsletter, BC News (newsletter), New Horizons (radio show and podcast) and our webpage: www.bca.org.au

  • Individual advocacy - Assisting people who are blind or vision impaired people against discrimination or poor service due to their disability. Our advocacy staff provides specialist information and advice on a wide range of issues.

  • Systemic advocacy - BCA develops policy documents and position papers to further our advocacy work. Through our policy work, we provide information and advice to the community and government on issues of importance to people who are blind or vision impaired.

  • Consultation - Regular consultation with members informs BCA's policy work. BCA engages with all levels of government, corporations and community organisations on issues that affect people who are blind or vision impaired.
