Blue Dot Army

Change500

Blue Dot Army is a registered charity with the Australian Charities & Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC). We were established in 2018 by Crystal Howrie after her own experience with cancer left her determined to change the processes and improve the service experience of those undertaking cancer treatment. ‘Blue Dot’ represents the small tattoo a person with cancer must have to accurately guide the radiologist to administer radiation treatment. For many it is a painful reminder of their cancer experience.  We do not receive any government funding. Our existence is based solely on support from the community. We have achieved the rating of donated gift recipient, meaning donations to us that are over $2 are tax deductible. Blue Dot Army takes a human centred, research-based approach to deeply understand the personal experiences of people affected by cancer and those who support them to identify the biggest opportunities for change. We partner with likeminded cancer organisations and wellbeing advocates to achieve this.

We focus on the person, not the disease.

The butterfly is symbolic to us at Blue Dot Army.  It means change, endurance, hope and life which are all major milestones for those on a cancer journey.

Blue Dot Army knows many Australians will be diagnosed with one form of cancer or another during their lifetime. We also know how devastating a diagnosis can be and the journey ahead can be difficult to navigate and overwhelming at times. We also understand that additional stress outside of the diagnosis adds strain to a person’s day to day living and, in particular, impacts heavily on finances.

About our Change500 program

Simply put, Blue Dot Army has created a program to build our supporters to have 500 people donate $100 taxable dollars on an annual basis. The money is held in a separate ‘bank bucket’ and is activated when certain pain points are reached. This money is used to change the experience for people on a cancer journey.

Join our Army

Our Change500 program is a dedicated membership with donations administered by GiveNow (a government preferred option specialising in Not-for-Profits and Charitable collections). It is a small, intimate, boutique program making a huge difference and changing a world that many Australians either encounter themselves or encounter someone who walks this path. In return for your donation, you will receive priority access to any ticketed events before going out to the general public, we will keep you updated when big milestones are reached for our Change500 Recipients. Where possible, you will hear directly from our Change500 Recipients about how YOU helped change the experience for them on their cancer journey.
