Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP) is Australia’s only performing arts company with a remit for producing, developing and enabling Asian Australian works and artists to reach main stages nationally. Through highly valued productions and initiatives, CAAP is regarded as a crucial catalyst for change in an ongoing shift to greater cultural diversity and inclusiveness in the arts. We provide the scaffolding for Asian Australian artists to thrive in a more equitable and representative industry. In all that we do, we work to transform the Australian theatre landscape.

Our mission is to provide cultural leadership in the presentation of contemporary Asian Australian experiences through outstanding live performing arts. 

In 2022, CAAP’s Longhouse gatherings continued to have urgent conversations and challenge the sector. We partnered with major stage and screen companies such as Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Screen Australia, Arts House and Carriageworks – where we saw the return of Longhouse Works in Progress.  

From sell out seasons at Sydney Festival 2020, Asia TOPA and OzAsia Festival in 2021, crowd and tummy pleaser Double Delicious took the road again to tour regional NSW and VIC, along with the original cast and addition of storyteller, writer and comedian Jennifer Wong.  

After a sold out season at Sydney Festival, Jane Hutcheon’s story of her Eurasian family Lost In Shanghai headed to OzAsia Festival with the return of Artist Lab x South Australia, with 15 amazing participants and 7 partner companies.

ENGAGE! continued its work to connect regional arts organisations and diaspora communities with Bunjil Place, Merrigong, Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre and the Arts House Wyong.  

Starting 2023 we had our second Artist Lab in Sydney after 2 years, Longhouse Sydney returned with the topic of Cultural Consultancy with improv actor and playwright Happy Feraren as our Longhouse Sydney Coordinator and recently we had our Longhouse with Arts House revolving around conversations on experimental art-making and queer solidarities.
