About this cause

Project Respect is a specialist support service for women and gender diverse people with experience in the sex industry, and for women and gender diverse people with experiences of sexual exploitation (including trafficking). We provide case coordination, specialist sexual violence counselling, community engagement activities including community connection events and outreach to brothels and community services organisations, engage in research, and provide secondary consultation and capacity building training to support sector and community organisations’ ability to provide non-stigmatising support. We have been a member of the National Roundtable on Human Trafficking and Slavery since its inception. 

We are accredited to QIC HCSS and Rainbow Tick.

Project Respect’s primary purposes are to  

·         Provide support to women and gender diverse people with experience in the sex industry to achieve self-directed goals, including equitable access to services;  

·         Provide support to women and gender diverse people who have experienced trafficking for sexual exploitation, whether current, historic, international or domestic;  

·         Advocate for structural change to end sexual exploitation. 

We provide a platform to elevate and amplify the voices of, while also being informed and guided by, those with past and present lived experience, including through our Lived Experience Advisory Group. 

By supporting Project Respect, you will assist us in the following key areas of our work:

  • Provide support, counselling and referrals for women and gender diverse people with experience in the sex industry, including people who are or have experienced Family Violence;
  • Continue to run our community connection events - Community Lunch and Gardening once per month, and Art & Wellbeing also once per month, providing relief from social isolation, therapeutic benefit, a free meal, and a contact point for entry into more intensive support when this is needed;
  • Conduct outreach to brothels, and outreach to community services organisations;
  • Provide sector capacity building education to support services provide safe and inclusive services to people with experience in the sex industry, and people who have experienced sexual exploitation (including trafficking);
  • Engage in research and advocacy regarding experiences of our service community, advocating to government at all levels including through our (unfunded and non-cost reimburseable) seat on the National Roundtable on Human Trafficking and Slavery.
