Blackburn & District Environment Protection Fund Inc

Protect and enhance the natural environment of the City of

The fund enables the local community, philanthropic trusts and business to make contributions to protect and enhance the natural environment of the City of Whitehorse. All gifts are welcome, large and small.

Bushland parks are important to the community in the City of Whitehorse. The city contains some of the highest quality bushland areas in the Melbourne metropolitan area. Linked together they could form corridors for birds and other wildlife, particularly important in an era of climate change. The continued health of bushland areas depends on maintaining, enhancing and linking these areas and protecting them from development.

For some time, the community has been seeking a way to contribute to a fund that helps protect eh bushland environment of the City of Whitehorse. In response this fund has been established with the assistance and support of the Council.

The fund is sponsored by the Blackburn and District Tree Preservation Society.

To achieve our objectives we must:

  • Build community support to promote and improve the value and heritage of bushland in Whitehorse.
  • Encourage retention of existing native trees, shrubs and flowers that support native wildlife.
  • Support and fund Community Groups working with council to protect and enhance bushland.

Key Areas of Expenditure

Extension of bushland parks and 'green' links through strategic land purchase.
Planting, mulching, weed control and wildlife surveys undertaken by voluntary groups.
Education programs that increase community awareness of bushland environment and natural heritage values within the city.
