Most of us grow up in the knowledge that by and large we are able to make choices about the way in which we live our lives. Whether we pursue all of our dreams and goals is often in our own hands. This is not the case for some of our community's more vulnerable people. Alkira through its Individual Community Options (ICO) Program are helping people to realise some of their dreams. Part-time employment, volunteering at a primary school, completing different courses to further a person's skills, attending a gym independently are just some dreams which are coming to fruition for people through Alkira's ICO program.
Individual Community Options is a largely unfunded area of Alkira's work. The ongoing costs involved in providing the resources to source and support such volunteering, employment educational and recreational opportunities falls on Alkira. ICO is one area of Alkira's work which does depend on financial support from the broader community.
