St Benedict's Community Centre has operated as a day time drop in centre for the Queanbeyan Community for many years now. It is located at 21 Brigalow Street, Karabar, in a building simply known as "Annie's".
It is a safe place where people can come, find company and support - especially if they find themselves in hard times, homeless or marginalized in some way.
The provision of meals in a warm inviting environment provides an opportunity for our volunteers; trained staff to offer caring support, practical assistance and in some cases advocacy to address the difficulties people face.
We have strong networks of contacts in the community who we can call upon, to meet a variety of needs. Sometimes we get are faced with crisis situations to try and resolve, but we aim to do work at a preventative level to avoid problems before they become critical.
Food is the key. A good meal is the place over which we have an opportunity to talk, to build trust, to hear people out, and to respond.
But the need is growing. We are seeing more working families facing problems, and in need of assistance.
We need your support to continue to meet the basic costs of running our kitchen and serving the meals we make! We have some wonderful donors who contribute in so many ways - and a finely tuned operation which produce wonderful quality meals, at extremely low cost.
We need your support to;- buy the food. -To pay the electricity and cleaning bills. - To maintain our kitchen; dining room equipment.
