The World Literacy Foundation is a Melbourne based charitable group focused on the eradication of illiteracy. You teach a child to read, you change a life forever. Literacy is central to the reduction of poverty, improving health and wellbeing and providing a pathway to further education and employment.
Funding will be used to implement education/literacy programs, and activities in remote Indigenous communities in Australia. With your financial support we will provide children's books, educational resources and literacy tutoring. In addition to the work to be undertaken with Indigenous children in Australia, we also work in 20 countries overseas. You can nominate to have your donation to be used in our overseas activities. In the countries overseas, we are committed to utilising low-cost technology to raise the literacy levels of those in the most deprived and remote communities of the world. We are currently using mobile phones and e-books with illiterate young people in Kenya, Colombia and El Salvador. These 21st century technologies are effectively used as a low-cost educational method to teach children how to read.
