Diversity provides a major opportunity within regional areas such as Central Coast to bring people together who may not normally work with each and over the last 2 years that’s what has been happening here reflecting the changing demographics of society, wonderful relationships across Council, not for profits, local businesses and global corporations all aligning to challenge perceptions of what Central Coast is capable of delivering.
People who are excluded or marginalised reduce community sense of connectedness. We are volunteer lead and investing in community connectedness using visible diversity as the vehicle to reduce rampant social isolation to build health, confidence and self-esteem and to foster trust through bridging relationships.
We have certainly faced examples of resistance to LGBTIQ visible diversity, marginalisation and exclusion had become entrenched over generations here with our 2021 survey highlighting over 50% of LGBTIQ respondents discriminated against (on the Coast) and over a quarter at their workplace (on the Coast)
Today Central Coast Pride is pushing through "the way its always been" and into a socially equitable global mindset for a healthier and happier Coast, one which is a more welcoming and inclusive place to live, work and play. We do so via our inclusive Naughty Noodle Fun Haus branded activations throughout the year, our annual Coastal Twist LGBTIQ Arts and Culture annual Festival and our ongoing community LGBTIQ focused activities such as Foxy Silvers and ThursGAY. Founded in July 2018, the last financial year we have taken our region from zero into hero with LGBTIQ led Gender diverse drop in, lgbtiq youth led group and our very first National point of visibility with the Coastal Twist festival which aligned the Central Coast to our communities 65.7 per cent yes vote (compared to a NSW average of just 57.8 per cent) making both the Central Coast federal electoral divisions of Dobell and Robertson among the more pro-equality electorates in the State.
The Coastal Twist Festival which drew national attention and a unique point of difference with its quirky coastie identity from all ages, genders, sexualities, family types, abilities. quadrupled expectations with over 7,000 people across the completely sold out 3 days of celebration, a landmark moment with 1st time national visibility and a good news story for a Central Coast coming out big for a more visibility inclusive and socially equitable region challenging perceptions of who we are.
As a Arts and Culture organisation we are focused on diversity as the norm, creating safe and Inclusive spaces for self-expression which inspire authentic originality & celebrate unique and diverse imaginings.
We leverage arts for social change & are creating a diverse array of events and programming, something for everyone across both the entire LGBTQIA+ community and overlapping into our entire broader community and beyond.
We trade for a social purpose with the object of Promoting participation & active engagement of activities which strengthen the cultural fabric of our Central Coast community.
At our core we are championing for equality, visibility & inclusion, making a positive and lasting impact through Increased exposure to a greater range of voices and perspective including all genders, abilities, classes, ages, First Nations alongside our own LGBTIQ community
