Everyone loves Christmas, but unfortunately not everyone has a family support system, and not every family has the financial ability to provide age-appropriate gifts, or even basic items like new clothing and toiletries while supporting a child with autism, intellectual disability or complex needs.
For this reason, I am asking our whole community to come together as a family to provide Christmas presents and gift packs for some of our most vulnerable community members. Together, it is our mission to provide care and support to those who need it most, and to ensure that no one feels alone or left out over the holiday season.
You can help Gateways share the joy of Christmas this year by making a gift to our Christmas Appeal.
No one deserves to miss out. Your gift this year will help bring joy to deserving children, young adults and adults with autism, intellectual disability and complex behaviours supported by Gateways.
I asked some of our supported accommodation residents to share what Christmas means to them…
"I love all the special food, especially roast and presents."
"I love Christmas Carols –driving to see lights – love leaving my Christmas tree up all year. I especially love special treats and prawns on Christmas Day."
"I love Santa and getting presents, especially Disney."
After a trying year, Christmas is a time we can all come together to share food, gifts, celebrate and connect.
Gateways supports many people with complex needs on a daily basis through individual support, ongoing therapy and skill-building programs run every weekday. Many more are supported round the clock to live independently in our 27 supported Disability Accommodation Services located in Western Melbourne, Geelong, Warrnambool and across South Western Victoria.
There is nothing better than a gift at Christmas to bring joy and put a smile on every face.
Please help us to share the joy of Christmas this year by making a donation to Gateways today.
I urge you to please give generously,
Kindest regards,
Stephanie Gunn
