The purpose of Filling the Gap is to improve the health and quality of life of vulnerable people with poor oral health through the provision of pro bono dental treatment. Our programs prioritise those most in need who are unable to access mainstream dental services, including asylum seekers and refugees, and disadvantaged people needing urgent dental care.
Filling the Gap collaborates with a range of partners to deliver dental aid programs using our network of volunteer dentists. Our partners include the ADA Dental Health Foundation and many charities that support disadvantaged people in the community.
Dr Jodie Olivier, Chair of FTG, will be participating in the 2026 City2Surf to seek donation support which will assist FTG to continue to provide this service. FTG has provided nearly 3,000 appointments to close to 1,380 patients pro bono. Fiona, for example, works for an Indigenous-owned nursery and dreams of working in landscaping and community education. Dental care was out of reach. "I've always been embarrassed to smile." Fiona shared, "I used to hold my hand over my mouth. Even though I'm a happy person, I don't feel confident."
Please help us to bring their smile and confidence back.
