About this cause

Community Defib Project supports communities across Australia to install community accessible defibrillators that are available for 24/7 access. In Australia, we know that most sudden cardiac arrests occur in the home. The survival of a cardiac arrest is reduced by approximately 10% with every minute that goes by WITHOUT a defibrillator. The Community Defib Project is here to support community members to ACT and make a difference by providing defibrillators for community members to access to potentially save the life of a loved one. We know that a huge portion of the Australia is more than 10 minutes away from emergency medical support and community members are sometimes left feeling helpless while they wait for help. Not only does the Community Defib Project aim to save lives across Australia, we aim to empower community members that they can make a difference and that they aren't helpless waiting. Community Accessible defibrillators are strategically placed across vulnerable communities and are available for 24/7 access. Operated for the community and owned by the community, CDP is here to provide assistance with planning, infrastructure, education and support to communities. The project involves a community member contacting the CDP with their interest. Following this we hold a 'Introduction Workshop' where we explain to the community how the process works and encourage a 'team' for their community to be formed. Following this we provide support for the community to fundraise for their own community defibs, through grants, donations, sponsorship etc. The CDP will then provide the support for planning and identifying locations where the installation of community AEDs would be suitable. Following this we arrange for the installation of the community defibs, and provide the support for the ongoing maintenance and compliance of the unit. Last but not least, CDP then offers free community education, training, support and resources to the community to empower the community members to access the community defibs if they're needed. So far, community members have access the more 150 community defibs on 10 difference occasions.
