Community Rebuilding Trust

The Community Rebuilding Trust (CRT) was established with the aim of supporting the rebuilding and re-establishing efforts of disaster affected communities.

The CRT is part of a larger community rebuilding initiative called BizRebuild, established by the Business Council of Australia, to respond to community need following disasters and emergencies. Funding to communities is provided, in partnership with BizRebuild, by Equity Trustees as trustee of the Community Rebuilding Trust. The trust is a perpetual charitable trust and donations over $2 to the trust are tax deductible.

BizRebuild is being overseen by an Advisory Committee chaired by General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove (Retd) AK, CVO, MC and may undertake a variety of initiatives in affected communities such as:

  • Providing financial assistance to replace lost tools and office equipment so workers can return to work
  • Providing temporary business premises, including demountable buildings, so small businesses can re-open their doors
  • Sending in financial and business recovery experts to help small businesses with capacity building and planning for the future, and
  • Rebuilding affected critical community facilities such as community halls.
