My dear mum, Margaret, turned 75 in 2020 and sadly passed away at the end of that year. On her behalf, I resolved to raise $75,000 for Dementia Australia by the time I turn 75 myself. With the support of friends, family, colleagues and others in the community who care about this cause, we’re well on the way.
Now, as I take on challenges like this, I think also of my dad, Des, who was a great supporter of this fundraising effort - and of Mum, always.
Mostly, I am raising funds through exercise based challenges that help me keep active and promote good brain and heart health.
So far, we've together raised just over $19,000 towards this goal. You can see a total tally, updated monthly, at sites.google.com/view/75by75.
Dementia is now Australia’s leading cause of death, and more than 420,000 Australians are living with it today.
Any amount you can chip in goes directly to Dementia Australia, supporting people like Mum and families like mine through vital services, education, and research.
Thank you for your help, support and kindness.
Mark
