I’m Renee and I’m raising funds for a wonderful charity that seeks to support vulnerable mums who have just given birth.
The unfortunate reality for many struggling young families is that vital supplies, essential in the early days of parenthood, are not readily accessible. All too often these mums leave hospital completely unprepared and overwhelmed, with no ability to provide even basic items like nappies, wipes or blankets for their tiny baby.
The Villiage Co provides mothers like this with essential items they'll need in the immediate days and weeks after birth.
Where will your donation go?
As a charity wholly reliant on donations and volunteering, the funds raised will go directly towards purchasing necessities for women after birth and towards running costs to ensure this important work can continue.
Why it matters
Before I gave birth to my son August, I didn’t fully comprehend how much I would rely on others to help me do daily tasks we all take for granted: go to the toilet, take a shower, get dressed, wash the dishes, cook a meal, get a drink of water. I was completely battered after childbirth (I aliken it to being in a car accident) and had a baby who needed 24/7 hands on care. Add to this the sleep deperavation, hormonal overload, physical recovery and overwhelming feeling of love and protectiveness - it truley is an all consuming and vulnerable time.
In the thick of it all I wondered in awe at my mum, and all the other mothers in the world who had done this before me. I realised how hard, (ney impossible!) this must be for mothers without any support.
Who does the Village Co support?
Gift bags are provided through a network of midwives and social workers, most often supporting women who are experiencing:
Domestic violence
Homelessness
Mental health issues
Drug use
Minimal support (including recent country transfer)
Refugees
Teenage mothers
Significant financial strain
Women facing adversity
It takes a village to raise a child.
I believe wholeheartedly that we need to come together to support all mums, in order to give our children the best start in life, and The Villiage Co are working hard to do just this.
Please consider making a donation to ensure this precious work continues. Together, we can make a small difference in people's lives! 🙏
