210km. 6,300 metres of climbing. One weekend. One purpose.

This November, my son Oliver and I are taking on one of Australia's most demanding ultra-running challenges through the Kosciuszko National Park. Oliver, 22, will run 160 kilometres with 5,000 metres of vertical ascent. I'll run 50 kilometres and 1,300 metres alongside him — at 52, I'll take that as a win. Together, we'll cover more ground in a single weekend than most people run in a year.

We're running for two small but remarkable Australian charities: the Fragile X Association of Australia and Sotos Syndrome Australasia.

We chose them because they matter to people we care about. Colleagues from SailPoint are parents of children living with Fragile X and Sotos syndrome — rare genetic conditions that affect how kids develop, learn, and experience the world. We've seen firsthand the weight these families carry, and we've seen what these organisations mean to them: a phone call answered when a diagnosis lands without warning, a connection to other families who truly understand, and a voice advocating for the research that could change outcomes for the next generation of children.

Both charities are small. They run on donations, volunteers, and sheer determination — no large government funding, no corporate safety net. Every dollar raised goes directly toward support services, awareness, and research for conditions that are far too often overlooked.

Fragile X syndrome is the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability in Australia. Sotos syndrome affects one in every 14,000 children born here. These two organisations are doing everything they can with very limited resources to make that happen.

Oliver and I will feel every one of those kilometres in the Snowy Mountains. We'd love for you to make them count.

Please donate whatever you can. For organisations this size, every contribution genuinely makes a difference.
