Stand Up for our Wildlife

Supporting Darling Range Wildlife Shelter

Darling Range Wildlife Shelter

Rescue, Care and Rehabilitation of Australian Wildlife

I’m both excited and somewhat relieved to announce that I successfully completed my fundraising challenge, becoming the first person to stand-up paddle 40 kilometres from Rottnest Island to Heirisson Island. Starting at 7:30 AM on Saturday, April 27th, my journey involved navigating around cargo ships, Rottnest ferries, and increasing boat traffic on the Swan River, amidst strengthening winds and swell. I reached my destination 7 hours and 26 minutes later!

All funds raised from this challenge will benefit the Darling Range Wildlife Shelter, a non-profit organization I helped establish, dedicated to the rehabilitation of Western Australia's wildlife. Since its inception, we've cared for over 180 different wildlife species. The idea for this challenge was inspired by our work with quokkas and the release of kangaroos on Heirisson Island.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, the need for funds has become more urgent. Our modest facility has grown into a critical resource, rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing over 2,000 native animals annually. The impacts of climate change and urban expansion have led to a surge in wildlife admissions, stretching our resources thin. Your support will directly help us enhance our facilities, improving the outcomes for the wildlife we care for.

On behalf of Darling Range Wildlife Shelter, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated so far, and a special thank you to Shaun Murphy, who provided a support boat and accompanied me every step of the way.

We are still short of our $20,000 target, so I will keep the Crowdraiser open until Friday, May 17th. If you haven’t already contributed, we would greatly appreciate your support!
