$188 - Can provide LGBTQIA+ resources to an entire Australian classroom.

What is Transgender Awareness Week?

It's a chance to celebrate the wonderful transgender and gender diverse community. And it's also the perfect time to educate ourselves and those around us about gender diversity, and the importance of being a transgender ally. And of course, what being an ally even entails.

Every year, Transgender Awareness Week finishes with the whole community observing Transgender Day of Remembrance. It's a chance to celebrate the trailblazers throughout history that have fought for trans rights, and honour the ones who have lost their lives due to violence and discrimination.

It's important to note that this sort of violence still exists, and isn't just an ugly footnote in history – and that's exactly the reason why Transgender Awareness Week is so, so important.

If you're unable to donate, but would like to show your support, here are some ways you can do this:

  • include your pronouns when introducing yourself to someone, ask their pronouns if they don’t offer them
  • add your pronouns to your profile on Teams and social media
  • add your pronouns to your email signature
  • correct others when they get a persons pronouns wrong
  • wear a pronoun pin
  • wear a trans flag or rainbow lanyard or pin to show that you are a safe person for the Trans and Gender Diverse community
  • speak out against Transphobic comments, in person and in social media posts
  • post positive Trans messages on social media
  • share and amplify positive social media
  • follow Trans and Gender Diverse people and Allies on social media
  • encourage your workplace to participate in training on Transgender inclusion
  • review language, policies and procedures to be inclusive
  • actively and consciously support the Trans community at all times, you never know when a Trans or Gender Diverse person is present.
