Over the past few years, Canberra Youth Theatre has continued to bring innovative, moving, profoundly Australian, and uniquely youth-centred new works to life. We have proved that young artists have the potential to create powerful, challenging, and intelligent theatre, right now. We’ve dived into young people's first experiences in the workplace, explored how families share joy, grief, and the Birdman Rally, and investigated the formative environments that bring forth our greatest (and worst) leaders – just to name a few.

We've welcomed back leading Australian writers to collaborate with our community, whilst the emerging playwrights we’ve commissioned have gone on to launch professional careers. The plays we have published are already being staged in classrooms and theatres around Australia, reaching new audiences and inspiring hundreds of young people.

You can help us:

• Produce the work of emerging Australian writers. We pride ourselves on not just supporting playwrights to write new work, but putting it onstage, fostering profound formative experiences for the young artists involved, paying emerging artists for their work, and contributing to the development of Canberra as a home for exciting live performance. $60,000 can bring a full-scale production to the stage.
• Commission writers to create new works for young people. A commission ensures emerging Australian playwrights are fairly paid for their work, and fuels their transition to professional practice. $20,000 can bring a brand new work into the world, enable its publication, and amplify the voices of young Australians. 
• Run creative developments which centre young people in the creation of new work. Youth voices are essential to the work we create, and it is through engagement of our community that we foster young people as genuine creative collaborators.
