The question is often asked what do with people with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) want, the answer is very simple. They would like the ability to breathe just like everybody else.

CF causes the lungs to become clogged with thick sticky mucus and living with CF means spending your life, permanently feeling that you are breathing through a straw. If you want to know for yourself what that feels like, try pinching your nose and breathing through a straw for a minute or two.

Cystic Fibrosis Community Care does its best to help where possible. As CF progresses, breathing becomes more difficult and people need to be on oxygen. We help by lending out equipment and helping with the cost when Government assistance is not forthcoming.

Some of the costs involved are for:

• Nebuliser Pumps - $372
• Oxygen Pulse Conservors - $1,100
• Positive Airway Pressure Machines (which are used by people on transplant waiting lists to keep airways open and provide oxygen) - $3,500

This equipment is all in addition to the everyday costs for families that come with caring for a child with a chronic condition.
