Who are we and what do we do?
- DRMC is a community music organisation that develops and delivers opportunities for people of all ages and all music abilities to connect, experience and create music.
- This all happens in partnership with professional musicians, conductors, composers, music therapists, sound artists, sound technicians and other organisations who recognise the benefits of community music.
- We create projects, events and programs in response to areas of social and educational needs.
Examples of our work include:
Reconnect and Reflect through Music (2011) - a project that involved professional singer/songwriters John Shortis and Moya Simpson working with bushfire affected folk in the Yarra Valley providing an opportunity for participants to give voice to their feelings and experiences.
Kidzsongs 2012 - Primary school singing groups and their leaders in Melbourne's outer east come together to collaborate, sing, rehearse and perform with choral professional Sharon Batterham. The voice is everyone's first instrument and the most portable and this project creates connections, inspiration and personal growth for all participants. This project is vital as the teaching of music is not mandated in government schools in Victoria.
Disco with Attitude (2012) - Take one disability dancer Melinda Smith, three community choirs, participants of all abilities (including disability) and a bunch of ABBA songs, stir and you have what was a memorable joyful event full of singing, dancing, conga lines, laughing and did I forget connecting? Donations to DRMC are welcome and put to excellent use contributing directly to providing inspirational opportunities that bring people together to learn, participate, create and socialise whilst making music.
