Darwin Asylum Seeker Support and Advocacy Network (DASSAN)

DASSAN has a network of incredible volunteers working long hours, who assist hundreds of refugees and people seeking asylum each year by:

  • providing referrals and support for those making visa applications;
  • helping people in Darwin integrate into the community, including assisting with access to housing, employment, legal advice, education and healthcare, coordinating donations of furniture and household goods, and helping with intangibles such as emotional security, restoring self-worth and dignity, self-determination and independence;
  • supporting and assisting people in detention elsewhere in Australia and offshore;
  • working to raise awareness about the plight of asylum seekers and working for change in Australia’s asylum and refugee policy.

To meet this complex workload, DASSAN employs a highly skilled expert advocate/coordinator to lead, train and support our team of volunteer advocates, and to ensure DASSAN's work runs smoothly. We have just one staff member and we need your support to keep this role going.

Your once-off donation or regular monthly commitment will ensure our work continues and grows. For every hour our coordinator works, there are dozens of dedicated DASSAN volunteers spending time amplifying the impact of that work.
