Disasters disproportionately affect remote, rural and regional areas. The floods that recently devastated so many areas across NSW and parts of Queensland are primarily in these areas, yet those affected communities often have limited capacity to invest in preparedness or to fund recovery following a disaster event.
FRRR has supported preparedness for and recovery from natural disasters since 2006, distributing more than $26M in grants for community-led disaster recovery over that time. We know recovery takes time - years - and often it's 12-18 months after an event when community-level needs emerge.
That's why FRRR's focus is medium to long-term support. The Disaster Resilience & Recovery Fund is invested, with returns used to provide flexible support for local priorities. Every donation will make a lasting difference, enabling FRRR to provide support where and when it's needed.
