A donation to Doncare will help make an immediate difference to people who are experiencing difficulties across all life stages. Doncare supports the most vulnerable and disadvantaged with a range of essential services to improve their wellbeing. Our approach to working with the community operates on three levels:

• providing assistance;
• prevention through support and education; and
• enlisting community involvement.

Doncare is an independent community services organisation that has provided support to families, the aged, youth and disadvantaged in the local community since 1969.  Our services are primarily delivered by a team of 500 trained volunteers who are managed by a small team of paid staff.  As a not for profit community service, Doncare receives some recurrent funding from local, State and Commonwealth government departments towards particular programs but relies heavily on self-generated income to subsidise program running costs.  We operate seven opportunity shops, the proceeds of which are put directly into supporting and delivering services to the community.

How will the funds be used?

Doncare uses donated funds to provide:

• Financial and/or material aid to people experiencing financial hardship, i.e. food or food vouchers, advocacy and information
• Counselling to adults and children, to help people find new ways of dealing with life issues
• Support to women who have been or are currently affected by domestic violence through individual and group support
• Intensive support to people who are dealing with multiple complex issues through short-term generalist casework
• Transport and support for seniors to attend regular social groups to keep them connected with their community to prevent isolation.
