The Defence Special Needs Support Group (DSNSG) Ltd is a non-profit benevolent volunteer organisation founded to assist Army, Navy, and Air Force families who have a special needs family member.
On 1 January 1994, the International Year of the Family, a small group of Defence families were brought together by a common bond: they all had a family member with special needs and found it difficult to locate appropriate services due to the mobility nature of the Defence life. Instead of going it alone, the families decided that it was easier to help each other out with information and support.
DSNSG has evolved into a well-known national organisation that operates multiple local support groups throughout Australia and overseas.
With valuable guidance from DSNSG’s Honorary Solicitor, DSNSG embarked on moving to a Public Company Limited by Guarantee (PCLG) under Commonwealth Legislation. DSNSG engaged a law firm with deep expertise in the Not For Profit sector.
On Sunday 5 November 2023 at the DSNSG 2023 AGM, a monumental and historic event in DSNSG history took place. DSNSG voted to become a PCLG under Commonwealth Legislation. Further, on 30 November 2023, DSNSG was registered as a Public Company.
DSNSG now has a new, contemporary, constitution and governance arrangement.
