Engadine Parish Mission in Action

Who we are?

The Engadine Parish is a faith community growing with Christ and His Church, building the Kingdom of God, in the Salesian Charism.

The Charism of St John Bosco calls us to create a community that is:

  • a home that welcomes
  • a parish that evangelises
  • a community that prepares for life
  • a playground where friends can meet and share.

Current Project

Syria Earthquake Appeal

With greater than 40,000 deaths in Turkey and Syria; in excess of 6 million people without homes in sub zero temperatures. The Salesians in Syria are mobilised, helping displaced people.  We have the opportunity to donate to Salesian Missions Australia who will ensure that donations get to the Salesians in the earthquake zones to assist people impacted directly. Salesians located in Aleppo, Kafroun and Damascus are working tirelessly, caring for those who have been directly impacted by the devasting earthquake. The Community in Aleppo received minor damage, however dispite this they are a refuge for survivors who seek shelter and the support they need. The three communities are working to ensure the safe harbour for as many people as they can, arranging transport and emergency shelter; providing food, clean water, medical supplies, blankets and so much more. Every dollar you donate will be matched from our Mission in Action Fund.  100% tax deductible.

You may assist by donating to the Syria Earthquake Appeal and St John Bosco Parish will GIFT MATCH each dollar donated by parishioners.

How we Help?

We have been a Salesian Parish since we were established in January 1951.  It is through gratitude to the Salesians for helping to build our parish community, that we are now in a position to help the growth of other Salesian Parishes and Projects. We raise funds to help assist Salesian Projects in developing countries to provide aid and assistance to the most marginalised.

The Salesians of Don Bosco support the vocational teaching of underprivileged young women, men, boys and girls, in order that they find employment and become self-sufficient contributing members of their nation.

Salesian works include schools (academic, technical, agricultural), school luncheon programs, orphanages, workshops for unemployed youth, emergency programs, community help groups, accommodation for street children, running dispensaries and providing assistance to the disadvantaged.

With a presence in most countries of the developing world, the Salesians or Don Bosco are well placed to make responses that are quick, compassionate and generous to those in need during emergencies such as natural disasters, war or violence.

Past Projects

  • Ukraine Sept 2022 - raised over $12,400.00 for relief to assist Ukraine Refuges with Food, supplies, accommodation and education.
  • Myanmar Sept 2021 - Assist Salesian Deacon Michael Pau from Myanmar (Burma) to provide aid including food and supplies to the many nearby poor in HsiPaw, Northern Shan State. An amazing $13,848 was raised.
  • Don Bosco Co-educational High School and Vocational Centre in Salelologa, Samoa provides education and training to disadvantaged local youth. Sustaining the school has been a challenge as the parents of students are, in the main, subsistence farmers many of whom struggle to pay school fees. Your support is welcomed to continue providing the job skills needed, to bring hope to students, so they can secure employment after graduation within local industry.  The Parish contribute generously each year to cover much of the maintenance cost of the colleges' two buses and teachers salaries.
