About this cause

Donate this June
Too many Australians living with this condition are misunderstood or misjudged. We’re not nervous or anxious, and we’re not shaking because of substance abuse — we’re living with a chronic neurological condition that affects millions worldwide.

Essential Tremor (ET) is the most common movement disorder, yet it remains widely misunderstood. When someone’s hands, head or voice begin to shake, it’s easy to assume it is nerves, Parkinson’s, or even a side effect of medication. But for millions of people worldwide, the cause is something different: Essential Tremor (ET). Although it may look like a case of “nerves”, it is in fact a neurological condition that can affect children, teenagers and adults alike. Over time, ET can make everyday tasks, such as writing, eating or simply holding a cup of coffee, more difficult. ET is a neurological condition that causes shaking, most often in the hands and arms. It can also affect the head, voice, trunk and other parts of the body. Some people also experience an internal tremor, a feeling of shaking inside the chest or body that others cannot see.
