Cyclone Pam caused widespread damage across the island communities of Vanuatu last week, with more than 75% of the population now displaced, supplies including fresh water and power have not been restored and family income interrupted for an unknown period. There is no social security provided by government and people are relying on help from the outside world to Get Back Up.
Further Arts is a local organisation that has significant impact in many of Vanuatu's marginalized island communities, providing resources for social change and transformation through arts and cultural activities. Many of these programs contribute to the cultural conservation of Vanuatu, performing and presenting at festivals and exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Further Arts work in many of the regions worst hit by Cyclone Pam and their head office in Port Vila was totally destroyed. Without power, communications or office equipment they are unable to continue supporting these communities.
Further Arts urgently needs your support to Get Back Up and get back out to these communities to continue on the ground support needed and assist with cyclone recovery:
- $10 will provide an emergency response kit to a family in a remote community (inc tarp, matches, buckets, towels, sarongs, phone credit);
- $20 will provide fuel to locally generate power for pumping water and mobile communications for 1 week in a community;
- $50 will provide travel costs for a Further Arts staff member to get to a remote community;
- $100 will provide a weeks wage for Further Arts staff member to assist recovery in a remote community.
