Every Step for Kindlewood

Some friendships become family.

Danny McKenzie met my late husband, Liam, through football many years ago. They first played together at Melville FC before moving to North Lake, sharing countless memories on and off the pitch. Not long after, Liam was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Throughout Liam's illness, Danny and his wife Jenna stood beside us with unwavering kindness. They have remained part of our family ever since, watching Molly and Una grow up, becoming "Uncle Danny" and "Auntie Jenna", and now cheering on little Walker too. Today, their own family includes their energetic Border Collie, Isa, and their spirited three year old daughter, Maisie, who keeps everyone smiling.

Now Danny has taken on his biggest challenge yet.

Over the next 11 weeks, he'll train towards completing a full marathon, not for a medal or a personal best, but to help raise funds for Kindlewood.

Kindlewood is creating a community where no one has to face life's final chapter alone. We support people living with palliative illness, those caring for someone they love, and families navigating grief. Our long term vision is to establish a community funded hospice in Perth's northern coastal suburbs, while today we continue to build compassionate community programmes that provide connection, practical support and hope.

Every training run, every early morning and every kilometre Danny completes is a reminder that community is built one step at a time.
