Our work
Family Planning Queensland (FPQ) is a nonprofit, nongovernment organisation established in 1972. FPQ has been the leading provider of sexual and reproductive health and education services throughout Queensland for over 40 years. Based in 9 centres from Cairns to Bundaberg, Toowoomba to the Gold Coast, FPQ delivers health services, outreach, education and training.
With your donation, FPQ:
- provides cancer screening, sexual health checks and contraception to men, women and young people through our clinics
- equips early childhood professionals with tools to teach young children how to stay healthy and safe from sexual abuse
- supports parents with information about navigating puberty and discussing respectful relationships with their tweens and teens to reduce the incidence of sexual assault
- assists people in planning families and promote health and wellbeing into menopause and beyond
- works with teachers and disability support workers to ensure young people and people with a disability have the confidence and knowledge they need to make informed decisions to stay healthy and safe
With your support, people most in need can access critical sexual and reproductive health and education services, to lead healthy lives, with the skills to negotiate safe relationships, make informed choices, and be protected from abuse.
How far your donation goes
- $20 enables a mother and daughter to participate in the Girl Talk program about puberty to get girls off to the best possible start to womanhood
- $30 provides a sexual health check to a young person under the age of 25
- $55 provides a Pap smear, vital screening for cervical cancer
- $240 provides a woman with long acting contraception, preventing unplanned pregnancy for up to 10 years
Why give now?
In 2012, some funding for FPQ's regional services was discontinued. This affected more than one-third of our regional outreach and education services, particularly those for women with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, young women and other women experiencing chronic social disadvantage.
FPQ is committed to ensuring our regional outreach and education services continue, but we can only achieve this with your help.
