Firstchance is a transdisciplinary service that provides early intervention and school aged programs for children with disabilities, and we work in partnership with their families. We have significant expertise in assisting children with a range of disabilities – and this includes developmental delay, autism, chromosomal disorders and genetic conditions. Based in Newcastle, our services also extend to the Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens regions.
With research demonstrating that working as a team in the child's community leads to better outcomes, we actively engage with parents, carers, educators and the community. Our philosophy is that parents and carers are the most important teachers of their children. We therefore share our expertise with them so they can continue to make progress even when we’re not around. This approach supports each child’s development, which makes the changes more sustainable.
We are a not for profit organisation, and our range of services include family support, specialised therapy, early childhood intervention and professional development in a variety of environments to suit the family's needs. Firstchance has been serving the greater Newcastle region for over forty years. Our team includes enthusiastic, talented and experienced therapists, educators and family workers.
