About this cause
To support services that will help refugees and asylum seekers in NSW to overcome their traumatic experiences and build a new life in Australia.

Approximately 4,000 refugees settle in NSW each year. Between 70 and 90 percent of those people will have survived torture and other traumatic experiences including bombings, the killing of family and friends and imprisonment without trial.

Those services include counselling, group therapy and activities such as English and art classes, camps for children and young people, physiotherapy, advocacy, research, community development and workshops to help families learn about Australian culture, laws and values.

How will the funds be used?

Friends of STARTTS will use the funds to support a range of programs for refugees.

Key Areas of Expenditure

Programs for children and young people including camps, leadership groups and sporting activities.
  • Group activities (eg sewing machines for unemployed ladies group, supplies for children's art group)
Individual and family counselling
  • Business mentoring program for refugees
