The FSHD Global Research Foundation is a pure charity, donating 100% of all tax deductible donations towards funding treatments and a cure for FSHD – the most common form of muscular dystrophy affecting adults and children.
Transparency, accountability, education and research are four key values that are taking the FSHD Global Research Foundation across borders to make a difference to the lives of thousands affected by Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy (FSHD).
Since its inception in 2007, the Foundation has raised $8.3 million to fund 40 research grants in 9 countries, including Australia, USA, Netherlands, Italy, France, Belgium, Spain, New Zealand and Canada.
More than 42 scientists have been funded globally including 13 Australian scientists, who have been funded individually or in collaboration with international scientists. This combined research has led to multiple world-first breakthroughs, not only beneficial to treating FSHD but also in expanding knowledge about other ageing diseases. As a result of FSHD Global funding, 41 scientific publications have also been published.
