Gay and Lesbian Foundation of Australia (GALFA)

GALFA General Appeal

The Gay and Lesbian Foundation of Australia (GALFA) raises and grants funds for activities that benefit lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people, and allied communities, in Australia. GALFA is Australia’s peak LGBTI philanthropic organisation.

Issues of LGBTI discrimination, disadvantage and need are little-addressed by other philanthropic organisations. With individual contributions and co-funding from like-minded organisations, GALFA supports underfunded and important LGBTI projects that make a difference in our community.

How will the funds be used?

GALFA is a philanthropic fund that will exist in perpetuity and use donations and bequests to fund immediate projects and to build capital funds to generate income into the future. Granting takes a social-change approach to philanthropy, focusing on overcoming the causes of disadvantage and inequality, including the people who are impacted by those injustices as decision-makers, and making philanthropy more accessible and diverse. In social change philanthropy, foundations are accountable, transparent and responsive in their grant making, and donors and foundations act as allies to social justice movements.
