About this cause

Garrigarrang Badu is a new dance, music and language work by the all-female intergenerational Jannawi Dance Clan.

Breaking new ground as the first contemporary dance work with Dharug language led by Dharug artists. After four years of significant development your support will allow for final development and presentation of Garrigarrang Badu in 2026.

This work is of national importance. A work of contemporary dance that revitalises Dharug language, culture and ceremony. It’s a chance for audiences to experience reclamation first hand. Changing how First Nations and non-First Nations people understand the history of this country.

Directed/Choreographed by Peta Strachan in collaboration with dancers & consultation with Dharug Elders/Knowledge Holders. This unique performance honours the strength, resilience, and spirit of the Dharug Matriarch, taking audiences on a journey through time to honour the ancestral women of the Dharug Nation. Combining contemporary and traditional choreography and music, Garrigarrang Badu draws from Jannawi’s rich dance practice to present a profound meditation on healing, spiritual connection, and the gifts of mother earth.

Jannawi has been successful in Creative Australia’s matched funding program, which means every dollar donated up to $10,000 until 31 May will be matched, doubling your investment to ensure Garrigarrang Badu reaches its fullest potential.
