Marie came to us when she was struggling in a destructive marriage. Her daughter, Dalia, who lives with Autism, needed support with school, and Marie did not know what to do. English is her second language and having the courage to leave her safety net behind was difficult.
She just wanted to give Dalia a safe and secure new life, but there were so many things to take care of. Marie was scared she wouldn’t be able to provide that. She didn’t know how or where to begin!
This is not an isolated incident. Right now, there are parents and kids doing it tough, they need a helping hand. They need practical support that other services can’t provide.
A gift of $30 today can provide families with practical help through our family support program when they feel alone and don’t know where to turn.
Together with you, our family support program has become a lifeline for single parents like Marie, who just don’t know where to start or where to get help.
When Marie made the decision to start a new life with her daughter, she turned to The Girls & Boys Brigade for help.
Through the family support program, we were able to offer emotional and practical help other specialised services can’t. Marie had never dealt with banking institutions or services like Centrelink and struggled filling out a form in English. She was given help to navigate services and begin life as a single mother.
But it is only because of your generosity that we can continue running this program to help single parents like Marie.
With children in sole parent families three times more likely to live in poverty, we must do what we can to support these families.
More families within our community need support more than ever. Can you help? Please give $50 to help a family get back on their feet and provide a safe and secure place to receive support.
