About this cause

GenWest's vision is to see achieve gender equity in Melbourne’s west so that everyone can lead healthy and safe lives, free from family violence and oppression. We provide services that help victim survivors of family violence. We support communities to lead safe and healthy lives, by running social and education programs for people who experience inequity. We also partner with other organisations to advocate for equal rights and the prevention of family violence.

Your gift directly helps victim survivors of family violence and supports communities across Melbourne's west to lead safe and healthy lives. Donations support us to deliver vital services, including:

  • Crisis support for people living in fear of, or escaping, family violence. Last year, we delivered 79,044 hours of support at The Orange Door, a 31% increase on the previous year.
  • Assisting people to transition from living with violence to leading safe, healthy and secure lives. Our case management, housing, and refuge services help victim survivors and their children to heal and recover from their family violence experiences. Last year, we provided around 1,500 nights of emergency accommodation, supported 2,444 victim survivors through case management and provided 607 episodes of emergency assistance outside business hours, when people needed it most.
  • Helping children heal after family violence through individual and group child and youth counselling. Our new Child and Youth Counselling Hub in Maribyrnong helps kids heal and families break the cycle of violence. Last year, the Children’s Counselling Program supported 322 children and young people. Each child’s key adult was also offered guidance on how to best support them.
  • Promoting positive health, preventing violence and increasing gender equity. Our primary prevention and health promotion programs aim to prevent violence before it occurs, and reduce the inequities that limit the lives of people in the communities of the west. Last year, we reached 3202 people through our prevention and health and wellbeing programs, training and community engagement activities.
