This AusArt Day, we're raising money for our new regional artist travel fund, Get Me There.
Western Australia makes up nearly one-third of the Australian continent. For many regional artists, reaching Perth itself is a big journey.
From Ravensthorpe, it's a five-and-a-half-hour drive north-west, in a car you own and fuel yourself. Think the bus is easier? It runs a few times a week and takes closer to eight hours.
From Derby, there’s no direct flight south, so you’re driving two-and-a-half-hours to Broome, then taking a flight to Perth; maybe $600 in fuel and airfares. Think driving’s the way to go? That’s 2,400km or roughly twenty-five hours behind the wheel.
And that's before you get to play at the music festival in Nannup, before you exhibit your art in Brisbane, before you undertake your writing residency in Rome. Multiply the time. Multiply the cost. Over and over.
Regional artists are doing extraordinary work. Distance and cost shouldn’t be what stands between them and the moments that could change everything.
Each year, Regional Arts WA fields requests to help artists get where the opportunities take them. We're launching Get Me There, a streamlined grant program to fund exactly that: flights, fuel, insurance, accommodation.
And you can help us get them there!
Every dollar raised goes straight to WA regional artists through this program. A small investment, an incredible return: bigger careers, stronger regions, a more connected WA arts sector.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and work. We cherish First Nation’s people and respect their spiritual connection to their land and cultural heritage and belief systems. We value these ancient systems and understand that they are thriving, evolving and will empower and enhance all Australians.
