Going Down Swinging works across platforms to produce thrilling, shape-changing, high quality publications and events that support writers and artists. We tell stories worth sharing.

What do we do?

Going Down Swinging is one of Australia’s longest-running and most respected literary journals: publishing digital as well as print and audio anthologies since 1979 and producing special, sold-out live events.

We believe in fostering a community of writers and artists dedicated to their craft and the ideas behind it. We encourage the creation of wild new work, and support this by placing great value on editorial development for emerging and under-represented voices.

What can YOU do?

You can help us tell the stories worth telling.

• $30 pays for a Going Down Swinging edition to be sent to a library or public collection

• $50–220 pays for a new contribution to the website: comics! fiction! non-fic! poetry!

• $250–500 funds a reading/performer at one of our excellent events

• $1,500 supports an all-new endeavour – a mini release, an entirely online event or a prize, perhaps?

• $5000 will cover the launch of an inspired and in-person lit event including the venue, paying artists to read and all that goes with it.

• $30,000 funds a year of Going Down Swinging. This includes paying over 20 edition contributors, commissioning online programming, staff fees, a designer, printing the edition and releasing it into the world.
