About this cause

Over the past eight years, we've been busy here at the Good People Act Now Project. We've trained over 500 young people on how to build the skills necessary to undertake bystander action in their local community.

We've partnered with numerous high schools, community groups, workplaces, sporting clubs and more to deliver educational workshops on gender inequality, family violence, violence against women and bystander action training.

Gender equity and the prevention of violence against women is everybody's responsibility. Support GPAN to take effective and impactful work in the city of Hume and beyond.

Violence against women and gender inequality remains unacceptably high in Australia:

  • On average, 1 woman a week is murdered by a current or former partner.
  • 1 in 4 women has experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or former intimate partner since the age of 15.
  • 1 in 5 women has experienced sexual violence since the age of 15.

Here in Hume, we have the second highest rates of reported family violence in metro-Melbourne. We rank second last in the entire state for women who feel safe walking in their own neighbourhood at night.

We want to keep working towards our goal of preventing violence before it begins. However, in order to do so we need your help.

How your tax-deductible funds will be used
Our priority areas for funding are:

  • supporting our young GPANers to deliver gender equity workshops in local high schools and for community groups (e.g. sporting clubs, various interest groups).
  • to develop and print resources (they've helped create a beautiful booklet for young people) and have made some wonderful by-stander action videos in the past
  • and for advocacy purposes (creating campaigns, presenting to and lobbying local politicians/government etc).

GPAN is a Banksia Gardens Community Services initiative. While funds raised here will be managed by Banksia Gardens, all funds will go to the GPAN project to further the work of gender equality and prevention of violence against women.

You will be sent a receipt as soon as your donation is received. If you wish to discuss a donation or bequest please contact Jonathan Chee on jonathan.c@banksiagardens.org.au
