About Gumnut Corner

Gumnut Corner Occasional Daycare is a non-for-profit centre run by a committee of parents offering an exceptional service of occasional childcare to the community. The service allows local families as well as visitors to the area to have easy access to quality childcare that is flexible and tailored to their needs.

Gumnut Corner is a 19 place centre catering for children from six months to six years. Qualified and experienced educators are working together to promote children’s learning and development through ongoing observations and programming. This is achieved through child centred and play based learning incorporating arts and crafts, health and physical activity, language and culture as well as literacy and numeracy for school readiness. Educators strive to meet the individual needs of each and every child in their care by taking the time to get to know and understand interests, abilities and challenges.

Gumnut Corner relies on childcare fees, government funding, fundraising and donations in order to continue its service to the community. Funds are lacking due to the ongoing low fees that are offered to all age groups, providing an inclusive service, as well as the flexibility of the service, allowing for last minute bookings. For this reason, not only is investing in educational resources becoming difficult, but meeting the daily needs of the service has also become a challenge.

Current and future plans to go above for the local community

Currently, Gumnut Corner offers a school holiday program for children within the service’s age range, to assist families in the community, allowing parents to continue working and children to keep busy during the school holiday periods. We are also now offering a new school holiday program for school age children at the local Primary school in order to fill a void for school holiday care in the community.

Here at Gumnut Corner we are working towards creating a transition program for children who are transitioning from a daycare setting into school. Transitioning to school can be a quite stressful and somewhat traumatising life event for children. With this program in place, children could have the opportunity to transition with ease and comfort with the support of the educators, as well as the support of the older children who have already settled into school.
