Help Us Reach $20,000: Support Australia's only HIV and Hepatitis-Specialist Legal Centre
The HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC) is a not-for-profit, specialist community legal centre. HALC is the only service in Australia providing free legal services to people with HIV and hepatitis-related legal matters.
People living with HIV and hepatitis experience complex legal challenges that arise because of their health condition, stigma, migration status and socio-economic disadvantage. These challenges often impact their health, safety, finances, and overall wellbeing. For many, HALC's specialist assistance changes lives.
HALC’s work includes;
Why HALC needs you
From 30 June 2026, the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre will no longer be able to assist clients outside of New South Wales and Queensland. This will have devastating consequences for people living with HIV and hepatitis across Australia, as they will no longer have access to HALC’s services which are informed by decades of experience.
The need for our services continues to expand despite the decrease in our overall funding. We need your help to bridge this funding gap so we can meet some of the legal need for our services outside New South Wales and Queensland.
This EOFY we launch our Changing Lives campaign to raise $20,000 to continue providing free, specialist legal assistance to vulnerable communities across Australia.
Please donate to our campaign and spread the word within your networks about HALC's important work.
Donations to HALC will enable us to continue assisting vulnerable people living with HIV and hepatitis across Australia. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
Our impact this financial year
In addition to delivering up to 800 services to people living with HIV in NSW and Queensland just this financial year, our small team delivered up to 200 services to people living with HIV and hepatitis outside these States facing diverse legal challenges and particular vulnerabilities.
