Headwest is a not for profit, charitable organisation in Western Australia that was set up to support people with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).

ABI refers to any damage to the brain that occurs after birth. The main causes of ABI are; accident or trauma, stroke, brain infection, drugs and alcohol or disease. An ABI can affect cognitive, physical, emotional and independent functioning

In Western Australia a conservative estimate shows that 2.3% of the population or 57,440 individuals have an ABI - 2,300 per 100,000 people. This is based on Western Australia current population of 2,497,500 (ABS 2009, ABS 2013, ABS 2013).
