THE PURPOSES OF HEARTBEAT ARE:

• To give support and reassurance to cardiac patients and their families following hospital treatment for cardiac disease

Conversation with a cardiac peer often brings a better understanding of the experience ahead and helps alleviate doubts and fears that are common during cardiac treatment. Our Patient Support volunteers meet with patients and family members who may "just want to talk" to someone who really understands the emotional rollercoaster they are on.

• To assist in the further development of cardiac units at Epworth Hospitals by raising funds to provide additional equipment and services

As a not-for-profit private healthcare group, Epworth relies on the generosity of the community to enable it to stay at the forefront of world's best practice in treatment and care.

Heartbeat supports Epworth in this mission exclusively in the field of cardiac services. All funds raised by Heartbeat, are donated to Epworth for research grants to cardiac nurses, scholarships to increase the skills and knowledge of cardiac nurses and other staff in cardiac-related disciplines, and the purchase of cardiac equipment.

• To promote friendships between cardiac patients, their families and supporters through meetings and social events

Beyond their in-hospital treatment, Heartbeat offers cardiac patients and their families the opportunity to access a range of fellowship opportunities such as morning teas and lunches that are organised for our members and supporters
