About this cause

It’s impossible not to fall in love with Danny, but living with him isn’t easy. Danny is a foster dog with Dog Rescue Newcastle who arrived with a broken jaw after being hit by a car while living as a stray on the streets. His unpredictable behaviour in his foster home can be scary. His Foster family are trying to help him but we need to find the cause and learn how to best manage his biting.

Dogs are incredibly good at masking physical discomfort so we are enlisting the expertise of a Vet behaviourist to find out how best to help Danny.

Imagine having to wear a heavy backpack all day, every day. At first, you might manage it just fine. But after a while, it digs into your shoulders, it hurts. you’re tired, you don’t want to run around, and even small things feel harder.

A dog living with chronic pain might feel like they’re carrying that backpack all the time. They might still want to play or go for a walk, but their body is sore to start with. Sleep isn’t restorative because of underlying pain. So they might be tired and the pain is always niggling away.

Danny has completed an initial Vet behavior consult, but now we need further diagnostic testing of

- Gait analysis which will help determine whether further investigation into pain and its contribution to his behaviour is warranted.

- Ongoing vet behaviourist assessment and treatment

- Muzzle training

- Vet consultations and disgnostics and prescriptions of medication and monitoring
