ABOUT HER PLACE'S NEW CHAPTER

Thanks to the generous pro bono legal support from Gadens, Her Place has successfully secured a new lease at Abbotsford Convent. This space will soon be transformed into a dedicated home for exhibitions, public programs, and educational resources that celebrate the achievements, leadership, and contributions of Australian women.

The space will be designed by award-winning interior architecture practice Studio Tate, whose thoughtful, narrative-rich approach brings each project to life through creativity, precision, and a deep understanding of how people live, work, and play. Their design for Her Place will reflect the museum’s values — intelligent, inclusive, imaginative, and impactful — creating a welcoming destination to explore women’s stories and achievements.

The Hon. Mary Delahunty G.A.I.C.D, Chair of Her Place, said:

“This new space allows us to continue our mission of storytelling and education – creating a ‘go-to’ destination for anyone seeking to learn more about the contributions of Australian women. It’s a space for the future, where we can grow our exhibitions and programs. We are grateful to Alexandra Walker and to the Gadens team for their generous support in making this possible.”
Justine Hyde CEO of Abbotsford Convent reflects:

As a precinct layered with the stories and voices of generations of women and girls, the Convent is a fitting new home for Her Place,’

‘We’re thrilled to welcome them as both tenant and emerging partner in our shared mission to celebrate history, creativity, community and the power of women’s perspectives”.
Gadens Partner and Her Place Board Director, Andrea Towson, added:

“At Gadens, we are committed to equality in the workplace and to creating opportunities for women to thrive – whether in the legal profession, in boardrooms or beyond. One way to do this is to ensure that the stories and achievements of Australian women are celebrated – as you can’t be what you can’t see. These values align with the mission of Her Place and we are proud to support the growth of this important organisation.”

This new tenancy marks a major milestone — giving Her Place a permanent home to grow its exhibitions, public events, and educational initiatives that connect communities and inspire future generations.

Her Place will officially open in 2026.

Stay tuned for updates, sneak peeks of the design, and announcements about our opening exhibition and programs — we can’t wait to welcome you to explore the stories of Australian women in our new home at Abbotsford Convent.
