Singing for Joy – High Street Bells Choir
Since it began in 2010, the High Street Bells Choir has brought the joy and benefits of communal singing to a large, diverse group of individuals. The Choir promotes inclusion of people who may be otherwise unable to access a community choir.
We have some remarkable achievements, e.g. singing via Zoom during Covid lockdowns, performing more than 50 times in 13 years, retaining many original singers whilst attracting new ones each year, and recently holding our first all-day Music Day
Once you start singing, all your worries and pains just fly away. Scott
Many things bring people back each week – friendship, fun, generosity, the songs and the opportunity to learn and grow. The Choir gives its members a positive and 'normal' experience to share with others.
What I love about the choir is the warmth and acceptance of everyone. There's a wonderful feeling between all of us. Tanya
The singers' joy and enthusiasm are contagious. Their collective talent, courage and determination are inspirational. The Choir helps to form social connection between those with disabilities and the wider community.
Why we are collecting funds?
The Choir has no ongoing funding but survives on grants and donations, plus some membership fees. We are asking for donations now because current funds will last only until mid 2024. We need to know that we can employ our music director and administrator and pay ongoing costs (rent, insurance, etc) further into the future. Dedicated volunteers keep the choir running, with fundraising activities and grants enabling us to meet essential costs. However, to guarantee the Choir's future, we are now reaching out to the wider community for assistance to ensure we can continue to employ our skilled workers and meet our expenses.
