About this cause
The HMF is collecting funds to provide a PhD Scholarship in melanoma research specifically addressing why melanoma cells do not respond to chemotherapy in the same way other cancer cells do. Our region has one of the highest incidences of melanoma in the world and the HMF has a strong commitment to supporting melanoma research in an effort to actively reduce mortality rates in our region. We are also actively involved in our local community raising awareness to prevention and early detection of melanoma. The Scholarship would be for 3 years @ $25,000 per year and would be offered to David Wroblewski, a Class 1 Honours Science Graduate from the University of Newcastle. David would be working under the supervision of Professor Peter Hersey, Director of Research, Newcastle Melanoma Unit. Prof Hersey is an Internationally recognised widely published melanoma researcher.
