HWYP is dedicated to supporting at-risk youth and families in South-eastern QLD who has been making a positive impact on troubled youth and families since 2011. We are a small charity, with a big mission!
Many youth who have experienced trauma, hold deeply entrenched negative thoughts about themselves. These thoughts can manifest into difficulties communicating, challenging behaviour, low self-esteem and a sense of hopelessness. Young people in particular are often reluctant to engage with the social systems around them, such as school, work and family. The 8 or 10 week program aids youth to develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, trust, and resilience; enabling them to better recognise how to calmly set boundaries and confidently cope with life’s challenges. Using the gentle art of Horse Whispering we build trust, rapport and stronger connections between vulnerable youth and their important support systems. The Horse Whispering Program delivers an innovative, cost-effective, and powerful equine learning experience designed to make a lasting impact.
Through hard work and measured positive results, our early intervention equine learning program has now expanded and we are running from Gold Coast, Logan, Tweed, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay. And we are ever growing as our program's ability to make a change is seen by equine facilitators and services alike. Harnessing over a decade of collaboration with community services, we have proven that pooling effort and resources, results in outcomes that are economically efficient and extremely effective in supporting youth, families and communities.
